ANNOUNCING THE 75TH ANNUAL DOLPHIN SHOW: LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS!
DON'T FEED THE PLANT.
The Dolphin Show, America's largest student-produced musical, proudly announces LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS as the 75th Annual Dolphin Show. LITTLE SHOP is to be directed by School of Communications senior Maggie Monahan and produced by School of Communication senior Janie Dickerson and Weinberg senior Bailey Sutton, with support from a cast and team of over 150 Northwestern University students. LITTLE SHOP will run for five performances January 20th-28th in Northwestern's Cahn Auditorium on campus with tickets going on sale to the general public on November 28th.
In Ashman and Menken's cult classic Little Shop of Horrors, the dreary world is turned upside down by the arrival of an otherworldly sentient flytrap causing the employees of a dilapidated florist's shop to sort through the morality of greed and plant nutrition. This acerbic sendup of both B horror movies and a pseudo-meritocratic class structure raises timely questions of self-determination and collective responsibility. Oh, and the plant sings. And eats people.
The cast of LITTLE SHOP include Northwestern students Alex Schneidman, Megan Orticelli, Rebecca Elowe, Chris Jumper, Emma Griffone, Brianna Dorn, Allie Woodson, Eli Newell, Marcellus Burt, Lena Dudley, Ryan Foreman, Amala Garg, Holly Hinchcliffe, Nina Jayashankar, Sam Linda, Zoe Olson, Ross Patten, John Toussaint, Kristen Sanders, and Elijah Warfield.
The Dolphin Show is proud to be bringing this powerful musical to life on the Cahn Auditorium stage in 2017. Since beginning as a swimming-pool fundraiser for the Dolphin Club in 1940, The Dolphin Show has produced over 70 musicals with teams of over 150 passionate Northwestern students each year, quickly making a name for itself as America's largest student produced musical. Dolphin's past productions have featured notable alumni such as David Schwimmer, Brian D'Arcy James, former Miss America Kate Shindle, and many more. Since its humble beginnings, The Dolphin Show has remained a staple in the Northwestern and Chicagoland communities with its high production value, dedicated design teams, and talented casts of preprofessional student performers. We are proud to call this our "Diamond Dolphin" year, and we invite everyone to keep a look out for the many additional events and promotions we are producing in the next few months to honor this extraordinary 75-year-long legacy.
